Description
Current Situation
- JADE has a parameter FileNameEncoding but it is never used.
Desired Behaviour
- JADE should convert the character sets used for file names between source host, jump host and target host.
- JADE parameterization
- JADE makes use of the following encoding parameters:
- source_filename_encoding
- target_filename_encoding
- jump_filename_encoding (if a jump host is used)
- These parameters are optional, however, if one of them is used then the other parameters have to be specified as well.
- The file name will only be converted between different character sets if the parameters source_filename_encoding and target_filename_encoding are specified (resp. jump_filename_encoding if a jump host is used).
- JADE makes use of the following encoding parameters:
Maintainer Notes
- JADE reads the value for the LANG variable from the user's environment to support a wider character set, e.g. German Umlauts
- The effectiveness of the LANG variable also depends on the Unix/Linux system, e.g. some systems need extensive configuration and extra package installation such as SunOS.
- JADE will reads the setting of the LANG variable from the user's environment
- The following parameters will not be implemented
- source_filename_encoding
- target_filename_encoding
- jump_filename_encoding
